Where They Come From
Developed in Pembrokeshire, Wales, to drive cattle, staying low enough to duck their kicks.
The Kennel Club recognised it as a breed separate from the Cardigan in 1934.
Daily Reality
- Needs a good walk or active play daily
- May nip at heels when excited
- Sheds a lot; weekly brushing helps
Corgis gain weight easily, so watch the treats.
Who This Breed Suits
- Active families.
- Owners who enjoy training games.
- Homes with or without a garden.
Not ideal for very sedentary owners or homes that want a quiet dog.
Health Considerations
May be predisposed to:
- Hip dysplasia
- Degenerative myelopathy
- Obesity
Keeping a lean weight protects the back and joints; parents' health testing is worth asking about.
